A Foresight Community of Practice

A dedicated strand convened for connection, the sharing of expertise and the exchange of perspectives on the Black Sea region’s futures.

A space for interaction around a shared interest in the Black Sea region, connecting people across fields of expertise and sectors of activity. The Community is intended for people with a genuine interest in the Black Sea region and its peaceful, prosperous, democratic, and pluralistic futures.

Where policy meets foresight

Purpose

The intersection of policy practice, strategic foresight and Black Sea expertise.

The network seeks to strengthen an underdeveloped overlap between policy practice, strategic foresight and Black Sea expertise: bringing regional policy questions into foresight and foresight perspectives into policy analysis.

Not all foresight practitioners work on policy, and not all policy professionals use foresight. A regional focus adds a further requirement: grounding futures thinking in the Black Sea’s specific policy questions and interconnected dynamics.

Convened by Black Sea Futures, the network is intended to support focused exchange among practitioners and experts interested in the Black Sea region: sharing perspectives and resources, identifying emerging developments and trends, exploring possible futures, and connecting strategic foresight with policy and practice.

It aims to bring together people from across the Black Sea region, the rest of Europe and beyond who have an interest and work on Black Sea regional issues. Policy professionals interested in the region who wish to develop their foresight knowledge and practice are particularly welcome, and prior foresight experience is not necessarily required.

Common cause and shared values

Principles of engagement

Common cause develops through dialogue around the cause, shared values, connections among people and momentum into community.

The Community works with plural futures, intellectual openness, methodological curiosity and reciprocity. Its conversations are grounded in democratic and pluralistic values without assuming a predetermined conclusion. Confidentiality and attribution are handled with care: comments are not attributed without permission, and participation does not mean endorsement of an individual publication.
